Lighting kills 11 and injures 27 on Amer watch-tower in Rajasthan


Rajasthan: On Sunday, July 11, Amer watch-tower in Rajasthan witnessed deaths of 11 tourers who had come to spend their casual vacation, while 27 people were injured in the incident of a lightening strike.


Around 6 'O clock, suddenly heavy rain started on the fort. A number of wise tourists decided to leave the spot and some 30 to 40 people stayed on it. 

It is said that at 4 past 7'O clock, lightening struck on the fort. There were two occurrences of lightening within the span of 15-20 minutes.

The crowd at the top was frightened, many of them ran and died out of fear and some of them even jumped off the tower. 


To bring down the injured as well as the dead bodies from the height of 1 km atop, with 2.5 wide stair was a big challenge for the team of SDRF, police, and other civil defence members. The team, which had started rescue operation at 8 pm at night had continued working till 6 am. A drone was also used for rescue operation.
