Kite Accidents

India is well-known for the rich circulation of festivals throughout 365 days. Diwali, Holi, Onam, Eid, Christmas, Navratri etc, are some of the popular seasons of festivities where the celebrations last for more than a single day.

The Kite festival also known as 'Makar Sankranti' in Gujarati, is fondly celebrated across Gujarat with kite flyers locking horns in a battle of kites. Heavy kites with glass-powdered thread are preferred to balance against the fury of mighty winds.

Although festivals are for celebration, incidents take no time to turn into horrible tragedies. A number of accidents happening during kite festivals are due to carelessness. Falling strings injuries, slips from terrace, brutal collisions while catching a kite are some of the popular instances of kite accidents.

Birds, bikers, street walkers are some of the common victims of the falling string. A sharp thread into wings of a bird can fatally damage and even be a cause of painful death. The falling threads fall on riders' heads and throats causing them to lose control of bikes into deadly accidents.

69 people had fallen from the terrace and 63 were injured from kite string last year 2022, reported the Deccan Herald. Public notifications are out at all the levels indicating the do's and don'ts for the festival. Bird rescue teams are also working round the clock for help.

Careful enjoyment can save oneself and others from injuries. Happy Utrayan in advance.
