Gujarat High Court ordered to allow an 18 year old woman to live life as per her own terms and conditions while hearing a habeas corpus petition. HC also ordered the parents not to disturb or ban any movements of the girl on going out for study or even talking to her lover.
The girl before the court told that she is in love with a person of 19 years old, whom she also wants to marry and live together. However, the girl agreed to live with her parents until the boy reaches the age of maturity of 21 years. The family of the girl also promised the court to follow its order and not disturb the girl in any way.
The details of the case shows that a woman of 18 years and 3 months older left her family house to start living with her lover, who is 19 years old. The family had filed a habeas corpus to bring back their daughter. Following which, the police presented the girl before the court.
The legal age of marriage is 18 years for a woman and 21 years for a man in India since 1978.
