Recent demises of good political leaders

Former Finance Minister and senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley passed away on Saturday at Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), where he was admitted on August 9. The minister had complained of trouble in breathing, following which he was admitted to the institute.
          While his political career was replete with multiple ups and downs, he will be best remembered for reforms such as GST, Insolvency & Bankruptcy Code, implementing Jan Dhan and carrying through Aadhaar-based direct benefit transfer to as many as 55 schemes.
          Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, "I have lost a valued friend, whom I have had the honour of knowing for decades." Shashi Tharoor, MP for Thiruvananthapuram wrote," Deeply saddened by the tragic passing of my friend Arun Jaitley", adding that despite their political differnces, they enjoyed a healthy mutual respect & debated on Budget often in Lok Sabha".

         Three-time Delhi Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Sheila Dikshit died on Saturday in New Delhi. She was 81. Sheila Dikshit had been ill for a long time. Sheila Dikshit was the senior-most Congress leader in its Delhi unit. She served as Delhi's chief minister for 15 years. She was also very close to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Sheila Dikshit was president of Delhi Congress. She served as Delhi's chief minister for 15 years from 1998-2013.
          "She worked with such vision and dedication to transform Delhi, to make it a much better place to live in for all its citizens, including the poorest, and that tremendous achievement remains her lasting legacy": Sonia Gandhi
          "Delhi government has decided to observe a two-day state mourning as a mark of respect in the memory of former Chief Minister and veteran leader Sheila Dikshit. She will be accorded a state funeral," Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia tweeted.
          
                                                         Sushma Swaraj

          Sushma Swaraj, former External Affairs Minister and veteran BJP leader, died after cardiac arrest on Tuesday night. She was 67.
The senior BJP leader was brought to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) around 10 pm and taken to the emergency. While doctors tried to revive her for about an hour, she died at 10.50 pm, the hospital said in its statement.
          "I congratulate the Home Minister Shri @AmitShah ji for his outstanding performance in Rajya Sabha," she tweeted on Monday after the bills on J&K were passed in the Upper House.
          Narendra Modi wrote on Twitter, "India grieves the demise of a remarkable leader." He said he could not forget how the former external affairs minister worked tirelessly.
          Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi described Swaraj as an extraordinary political leader, a gifted orator and an exceptional Parliamentarian and said she had friendships across party lines. "My condolences to her family in this hour of grief. May her soul rest in peace. Om Shanti," he tweeted.
